How much would it cost to change operating systems in my computer?

I bought a G6-400 Gateway computer for only $2 and it works perfectly fine. the only problem is that it is operating on Windows '98. I want to know how much it would cost to replace its operating system so it will operate on Vista. How much would it cost to change operating systems in my computer? You need to put Ubuntu in there. Depending on the computers specifications, it might not even run Vista, which is a piece of junk anyway. How much would it cost to change operating systems in my computer?Honestly, if its a Windows 98 computer it will defeintly never run vista... your best bet is to find a copy of Windows XP. even with that it'll probably be pretty slow.... but it will never run vista...How much would it cost to change operating systems in my computer?First thing you need to do is check wither or not your computer is compatible with Vista.

If its not, it will be a nightmare.

It will run like crap.

The below site will help with that.

If you can get the upgrade , it will cost about $100.

Full versions depending on which one can cost a bit more.

Should be a little cheaper though since Windows 7 has come out.

But if the computer's that old, you'll need a new processor, new RAM, a new graphics card, a new motherboard, a new hard drive, and a DVD drive. Depending on what components you get, you might need a new power supply too. Basically, you aren't getting that computer to run Windows Vista or 7- you'd need to replace almost everything. Computer power doubles every two years. If that computer was made in 1999 (which it would need to be to be running Windows 98), it is about 50 times slower than a computer made today. It's just not going to happen. How much would it cost to change operating systems in my computer?I agree with above, Ubuntu is free, and will probably operate much faster than any newer windows OS will, no matter which one. Download the .iso from http://www.ubuntu.com/, and burn to a disc. Then you can try it and see if you like it and if so install over the old OS.How much would it cost to change operating systems in my computer? We still have the wifes first pc running a g6 400 5000.00 when she bought it, With huge monitor that we still run

She had NT running for a long time, then dual 2000pro w 8.4 and 60 gig HDD

Now 2000pro and xp home w 8.4 and 40 gig and drivers were tough for home.

XP maybe but never vista or 7

Its a great PC but weak videoHow much would it cost to change operating systems in my computer? If it's a win98 it probably won't run vista because it will not meet the requirements. Vista is a huge memory hog, and if you don't have at least 2gigs of RAM ur SOL

If you really wanna upgrade the system, try installing a flavor of Linux (which is free). It usually runs well on low-spec computers. I recommend xubuntu: http://www.xubuntu.org/
