To tell ya the truth the Auto's go better than the manuals as in a manual you have a fly wheel and that transfer of torque through the crank is not really good for them ecotech motors on start up as you'll hear it as a loud chirp through the tensioner on your drive belt. In auto's you have a torque convertor and pressure plate which takes up this torque before it goes through the crankshaft. Ya silly if ya do i only recommend this for GEN3 V8's. Our 2000 Toyota 4-Runner needs the 120,000 mile service. The Toyota dealership is trying to charge like $500. How about the Fuel InjectiI perform fuel injection cleanings and transmission fluid and filter changes on a regular basis. Although I think $500 is way too high, I also think some of the prices being provided to have both professionally done are unrealistic. If you are going to have the transmission service done, do it right and clean out the pan, the magnet and replace the filter. I have seen chunks and globs of sand-like goop come out of pans and filters. Also you get what you pay for with fuel injection cleaning. I have the rather expensive equipment to do the job right at the rail with a concentrated cleaner, under pressure and disabling the fuel injection system. I have performed these services on 4 Runners and they use Banjo bolts at the rails and few, if any, cheap setups will ever be able to attach to the rail.
My advice is get the transmission service done properly and wait on the fuel injection cleaning. $150-$200 is not unrealistic to the have the transmission service done properly. The actual labor time to do the complete transmission service is 2.8 hours because it is not as simple as some would have you believe. More importantly, make sure the correct ATF fluid is used if you go to an independent. Toyota has a specific fluid (Toyota Type T-IV) that should be used. There is also a TSB (TC001-02) about it. Most times there is a difference between having a job performed cheap or having it performed properly. My advice is get the transmission service done properly and wait on the fuel injection cleaning. $150-$200 is not unrealistic to the have the transmission service done properly. The actual labor time to do the complete transmission service is 2.8 hours because it is not as simple as some would have you believe. More importantly, make sure the correct ATF fluid is used if you go to an independent. Toyota has a specific fluid (Toyota Type T-IV) that should be used. There is also a TSB (TC001-02) about it. Most times there is a difference between having a job performed cheap or having it performed properly. From there it wouldn't be very probable that you could remove a piston with the engine still in the car, so you would have to hoist the engine up, remove the oil pan, unbolt the connecting rod from the crankshaft, and then remove the piston. You replace the one ring, put it all back together, and then you have even more serious problems ahead of you as the other rings are probably in very bad shape and the new ring isn't going to seat as well as it should because the cylinder isn't freshly honed. So, I imagine it would be 8 or more hours labor, but if you replaced that one ring you would be happy to know that the parts cost is very, very cheap. You would, however, have gaskets to replace so say the total parts cost for this would be $50-$100. This plus labor would be upwards of $600. Worth it for ONE piston ring??? I don't think so.

2. Brake pedal since you need to put the larger pedal in
3. automatic floor shifter
4. automatic shift cables
5. possible computer change, I didnt have to cuz the wiring set up I used was already set up for auto.. but youll run into wiring issues as well.. auto trans have park/nuetral safety switch as well as on some models a TCC *torque clutch converter* also the gear switches.. like I said it all depends on year and what not.. if its older like early 80's or before then you shouldnt have to much trouble but if you start creeping into the mid 80's and up it gets a bit more complicated

Then ya gotta either change out your radiator for the one that
has a trans oil cooler built into it or add an external trans oil cooler in front of your existing radiator and run the lines from the trans to the cooler.
Depending on what year Jeep you have-you may also need to install the transmission control computer (if it is supposed to have one) or change to a different ECM if the engine and trans use the same unit to control both.

The best route would be to talk to a GOOD hot rod or custom shop in your area that has lots of custom body work experience. You would likely come out cheapest by finding a convertible parts car. This will be a long search for a car with all of the mechanical parts for the top intact that is pretty much useless otherwise, but I saw one for sale in my area that would've been perfect about 6 months ago, rust bucket, no title, but all of the top mechanisms were there, for about $1800.00. Expect $40-80 an hour labor for the conversion, I've never done one so I can't quote you a number of hours. But don't expect it to be cheap. Also, the convertible cars have more bracing and inner structure in some panels to account for lack of a roof, all of this will need to be added, and you will be best off with new parts here, as old rusty braces are kinda like using cooked noodles to splint a broken bone. Interior trim will be different from the doors back, all of this will have to be purchased if the parts car's originals are trash, as will all of the cloth and rubber parts in the top.
For what you will spend on the conversion, start to finish, to have it done right, you could restore the hard top car and call it a day. Or, you could build a damn nice engine/trans combo to drop in. But it would look good, and you would have the drop top that you want. It's all in how much you're willing o spend.
Another option would be to sell the car you have and locate a convertable.
